Following its January 2009 monitoring visit to Burlington Danes Academy, Ofsted described the overall effectiveness of the academy as good - the second-highest inspection grade. The inspectors commented that a “huge improvement has taken place over the last year”. The report goes on to say that Ms Coates “is leading the academy exceptionally well”. It also notes the “ambitious vision for the academy that is shared among staff”, and concludes that “the improvements achieved and the energetic determination of staff indicate that the academy has good capacity for further improvement.”
Principal Sally Coates commented:
“This is a landmark judgement for the academy and I am really proud of all the pupils and all the staff. I am absolutely sure that over the next 3 years this academy will move to outstanding. We are already working together to achieve this.”

Following our Ofsted success, a Section 48 inspection rated Religious Education at the academy as “outstanding”. Asked by the inspector how they would describe their experience of RE, the students said it “opened my mind and made me think” and “it has helped me understand other people’s points of view”.
