Church of England Ethos

Our faith provides a moral and spiritual framework which underpins the academic life of the school. We believe that teaching students to be upright, responsible, caring, courteous and respectful citizens is as important as exam success.

Every morning starts with a short prayer or reflection in the staffroom and every advisory group begins their day in the same way, whether the students are with their advisor or in assembly. Our chapel is at the centre of the school and we are also fortunate enough to have a school chaplain. All students study Religious Education until the age of 16 and all pupils are entered for the full GCSE. In addition a small group study A/S Theology in Year 11 and in 2009 all students passed with an A or a B grade. Religious Education is one of our most popular and successful courses and we have two 6th form groups studying Theology A/S level in Year 12.

Burlington Danes Academy prides itself on being an inclusive school and pupils of all faiths are welcomed as long as parents and students understand and accept that the school’s Christian ethos permeates every aspect of school life. 25% of our places are reserved for pupils who have attended Church of England primary schools (see Admissions policy).
