Students Explore Local History in Cross Curricular Projects

Normal lessons were put on hold for two days last week so that students and staff could work together on cross-curricular projects exploring local history.  Students from different year groups combined to investigate various aspects of local history, from the 1908 Olympics to the economic and social impact of Westfield shopping centre.  One group of students studied local architecture and produced a scale model or our own academy building made entirely of bread!

Principal Sally Coates said  “I was amazed by the creativity and initiative shown by our students.  As a school we all feel more in touch with our local community having spent two days investigating its history.” Meanwhile student Elizabeth Ogundele (Year 8) remarked  “these two days have brought history to life for me.  I enjoyed working with students from other year groups, and with teachers who do not normally teach me.  I made new friends and it was fascinating to learn about the Olympic games which took place just 5 minutes walk from our school site.”
