The Student Voice Program at BDA is called ARTICULATE
Our Motto is: “Empowered to THINK, SPEAK & LEARN Independently”
Student Voice is all about YOU!! the student. Your opinions, your ideas, your solutions.
The aim of Student Voice is to make sure that you
- feel ‘heard’ in your school.
- are involved in all aspects of school life.
- can work productively with all ages and types of people.
The drivers of student voice in the Academy are our student leaders
What is a Student Leader?
Student leaders are required to consistently reflect excellence and quality of character. They are the first point of call for student representation and are utilised regularly by the Academy.
The role of a Student Leader should be seen as a seriously demanding one, and not one to be taken on lightly. There is a rigorous application process that provides a good foundational experience of real life job application procedures. Student Leaders perform a variety of general duties and support whole school events; demonstrating their commitment is an important aspect of the role.
Why does BDA believe in student leadership?
- It is important to treat others as you would be treated yourself.
- It celebrates achievement. We believe in rewarding and promoting positive values that support the whole community
- It is about togetherness. Through working together to achieve a common goal and a shared purpose, students learn valuable life skills.
- It changes things for the better. Students can make a difference to their school experience, through personal accountability and contribution.
- It develops character. Leadership is a challenge and should be practised by all students, not just those elected into specific positions. This is difficult, but at BDA we aim to provide every opportunity for students to take leadership roles.
- It supports learning. Mentors, role models, people who have the capacity to listen, to help students explore ideas, to share their experiences, to facilitate processes and to provide feedback form the backbone of a successful leadership programme.
